Ughhhh......Go to Sleep Baby!

So Caden is going through a rough patch right now :( Actually, to put it correctly, we all are going through a rough patch right now. Baby not happy=Mommy and Daddy not happy! He is at that stage where he is only happy if you are holding him while standing up and bouncing him up and down. There is no sitting on the couch bouncing him, there is no swing time, there is not tummy time, there is no jungle gym time. The only time that there is a moment without crying is when someone is carrying him around..... My husband got so frustrated the other day, that I heard him say "Go to Sleep Baby." Not "Go to sleep Caden" just baby! It made me giggle but it also made me sad because we are both at that point where we are going to go crazy!

As you can see, this Mommy is so frustrated. I feel helpless. I don't know why my baby is so upset all of the time. We have tried everything. The pacifier, baby Tylenol, teething rings, baby toys, laying down with him. Nothing seems to work. If I were a betting women, I would have to say that he is teething. Already...... I know, I couldn't believe it myself. He has most of the signs. He is drooling like crazy, he's grumpy, he can't get comfortable, his naps are only 20 mins at a time. The only signs he doesn't have are the high temperature and diaper rash. Which, I am praying don't happen.

So here I am, asking for advice. What else should I try? The one good thing we still have on our side is that he is sleeping 8 hours every night, waking up for a feeding and then going back down for a few more hours!

Please help!!

Sincerely,

A Desperate Mother

  1. Oh, I remember those days all too well. Newborns can be so exhausting! It sounds like you've tried about everything. The only thing I thought I'd mention is that with all 3 of my kids, I had to use Similac Low Iron formula. (Obviously this doesn't apply if you're nursing him.) My babies all had a sensitivity to how much iron was in the regular formulas. Do you have a bouncy seat that has a vibrate function on it? I used to swaddle them up tight and then put them in that and they loved it. You might try some baby orajel if you think he's teething. Seems like the tylenol would've helped, though. I hope it gets better for you soon!

  2. Oh poor little C. I hope he finds some teething relief and you and Jim do too.

D and I have already decided we aren't getting a good night sleep until Brayden moves out. :-) So I look forward to a full 10 hour night in 18 years!!

  3. Around this age with Claire I took a baby massage class with her. It helped calm her and helped A LOT with gas. I learned some techniques that helped me stay calm and less stressed when she would get fussy. Just remember this will pass. We are almost into the two's and let's just say i'm nervous. Just do the best you can and he'll be ok — you all will be ok.

  4. hi there. a trick that worked for us is running the hair dryer. i know it sounds crazy, but for a reason i cannot recall, i turned it on and our baby immediately stopped crying; in fact, it put him to sleep. this became our nightly ritual. so much that i googled hair dryer noise, and there is a CD that is nothing but constant hair dryer noise, so i bought it and put it on "repeat" in the cd player in his room. people thought we were crazy, but it worked. we eventually bought a sound machine that sounds like constant air blowing (you can adjust the amount/volume). i know babies have that time of day when you just cannot console them. for us it was every evening around 5pm and would last a couple of hours. needless to say, i was willing to try anything and a hair dryer it was! :) good luck!!

  5. We had a super fussy baby...no sitting, no swing, no nothing but carrying baby around. It. Was. Awful. One day, my husband put him in a wicker laundry basket with handles. He loved it! Of course, then all he wanted was to be carried in the laundry basket. We found out later that he was lactose intolerant. I so wish we would have found out sooner, so we could have had a happier baby without the tummy discomfort. Just something to think about.

  6. No advice here...I'll be asking you for advice soon enough! Glad to hear he's at least sleeping through the night. We should plan something sometime soon. I want to see you guys again and get in some practice with Caden one last time before Kenley gets here. LOL.

    Hope something works!

  7. Have you heard of Biogia? I think that's more for "colicy" babies than it is for teething babies, but they are miracle drops none the less... If he is teething, baby oragel works wonders for some babies...
