Our First Anniversary- September 12, 2009

Hubby decided that it was his job to plan our first anniversary trip and he wanted it to be a surprise. So back in January (yes he actually planned our trip 8 months in advance), Jim told me that I needed to take the four days of work for our “surprise trip”. If anyone knows me well, they know two things: 1) I plan everything. Seriously, I am always in charge of planning any party, trip, dinner plans, etc. All of my friends know that I am in charge (which is a good and bad thing especially if you really don’t want to be in charge of planning certain things); 2) I love surprises but I hate surprises. I am one of those people that needs to know, wants to know what is going on. Maybe it’s a control issue that has to do with number 1??

Anyways, Hubby planned our trip for our first anniversary and I bugged him for months to tell me where we were going. He was really good at keeping it a secret until one day we were arguing and he blurted out in so many words, “Maybe you should realize that I worked so hard in planning our anniversary trip to Bos….shit….so now you know, we are going to Boston.” I instantly forgot why we were arguing and screamed in excitement! For some reason, in the last couple of years I have been obsessed with wanting to go to Boston. Maybe it’s because my favorite movie is Good Will Hunting, or I absolutely love the Bostonian accent or maybe it’s the history of the city?? I think it was a combination of all of the above but I could not ask for a better way to celebrate our first anniversary but in Boston!!

Not only where we going to Boston but my wonderful husband also planned for us to go to Nantucket Island for two days as well! So here are a few highlights from our trip:

We left September 11th (I was a little apprehensive to fly on 9/11 but I am pretty sure that after the horrible events that happen 8 years ago, I am pretty sure that this date will always be the safest date to fly) and landed in Boston around lunch time.

We made our way from the airport (which is really close to the downtown area) to our hotel in Copley Plaza. Copley Plaza is by far the best place to stay in Boston mainly because it is centrally located and right by Newbery Street where all of the shopping is! We checked in and had a surprise knock on the door. My parents had arranged for the hotel to delivery us chocolate covered strawberries and Champaign! Thanks Mom and Dad! As you can see below, I had some difficult in opening the Champaign.

That night we had tickets for the Boston Red Sox game. Unfortunately after only one inning the game was called because of rain. Lucky for us it was reschedule for Sunday, September 13 which was perfect since we were still in town.

On our second day, our anniversary, we made our way down to the North End where we traveled The Freedom Trail and saw Paul Revere’s house and the First Church. As you can see by the pictures, it rained all day that day but that didn’t stop us from seeing the sights. Did I mention one year ago on our wedding day it poured rain all day. Is it a sign?

Our dinner that night was at this amazing steak restaurant called Park 34. The food was incredible and I finally convinced my husband to split a bottle of wine with me and he loved it! Normally, he only drinks beer….

Sunday, September 13th we went to the rescheduled Red Sox game and enjoyed the perfect weather. Did I mention that my parents also paid to have our names on the scoreboard… They seriously are the best! We didn’t stay for the whole game because we really wanted to see MIT and Harvard. Note to self and anyone else you wants to see both campuses, yes they are both in Cambridge (right over the Charles River from Boston) and on the same main street but really not walking distances from each other….We walked forever that day but it was worth it!

Monday morning we started our journey (in a bus) down the Cape to Hyannis where we got on a ferry to Nantucket Island. We spent two days on the island and let me tell you, it was so relaxing (minus the 17 mile bike ride). I have attached some pics below of our bed and breakfast, The Brass Lantern Inn, which was so nice, and some of the island. This place is up there on my favorite places that I have ever been!!

All in All, We enjoyed our trip and are still happily married after one year! Can’t wait to see what the next year will bring!
