To my sweet boy:
We are anxiously awaiting your arrival! Mommy is currently 37 weeks (almost 38 weeks) pregnant and your due date is right around the corner. Please know that we want you to stay inside as long as you need to grow. Mom and Dad would like for you to come now but we understand that you are not ready.
We want you to know that we love you more than you can even imagine and we haven't even met you yet! We talk all the time about what you will look like, who you will be, what you will accomplish (Dad has big plans for you!! Next Big Quarterback for the Bears, Starting pitcher for the Cubs, Even a mention of playing for the Blackhawks....but please know that there won't be any pressure to be any of these people..... I will keep dad in line!).
Will you have Daddy's bright blue eyes and blond hair or Mommy's brown eyes and dark hair? We wonder if you will be a big baby like Daddy or a smaller baby like Mommy? Will you have your dad's easy going personality or mom's type A personality?
Please know that as much as we want you to be like one of us, we want you to be your own unique person!!
I dream about you all of the time! You are the cutest baby in my dreams which I know will be true!! I dreamt that you will be born on July 9th and will weigh 7 pds 13 oz! Daddy says that if my dream comes true, we will need to analyze my dreams more and try and play the lotto!!!
Not only are Mom and Dad waiting to meet you but you have so many other people that are anxiously waiting as well!! Two Grandmas that will spoil you to death, two Grandpas that are already talking about traveling t-ball games, four Aunts that can't wait to squeeze your little cheeks, two uncles that can't wait to take you under their wing and teach you everything they know, one little cousin who can't wait to have a friend to play with and one big K-9 brother who has been so confused since the day we started the nursery that he has expressed that he needs answers for all of the changes the last 9 months!!! I could go on and on about all of the people waiting for you but this letter would go on forever!
I can write a novel about the dreams we have for you but I will stop here and say that we love you, we promise to be the best parents we can be and we can't wait to finally hold you and take good care of you!!!
Love Always and Forever,
Mom

To my first Son:
Well Cade, it’s about that time that your mother and I finally get the pleasure of meeting you. I can tell you that these last 9+ months have been filled with many emotions and much excitement. You have already had a huge impact on our family and you haven’t even taken your first breaths yet. I could probably write a novel to you right now but for the sake of things I will keep this manageable.
First off, I hope very much that you like the name that we picked for you. There are a number of reasons but all in all it just seemed like a good name for a Rose. Your name has several meanings that all boil down to having courage and a fighting spirit. I can promise you that you will need both throughout your life. Plus, with a last name like Rose we wanted to make sure you had a very masculine first name. With a strong name like yours you will have a less chance of your classmates forming a circle around you and singing “Ring Around the Rosie” (True story).
It’s funny how much of an impact such a small person can have. Our priorities have changed so drastically since we received the exciting news of your arrival. I no longer care about expensive jeans or going out to eat at nice restaurants. I already care more about you than I do about me, and I haven’t even held you in my arms yet. I just know that you are going to be a great son and an even better big brother to your future siblings.
This past Sunday I was reading the Trib and they were handing out their awards for the best scholar/athletes of 2010. I immediately thought of you and how you will one day be a part of that group. Caden Rose, a fine athlete that will get into a top University and go on to have a successful career. Then I thought about it more and decided that that wasn’t fair of me. It then occurred to me that it doesn’t matter to me if you are a stud quarterback or in the top 10% of your graduating class. Life is already difficult enough without the pressures of trying to please everyone. As long as you work hard and give it your all it doesn’t matter to me what the end results are.
Finally, I can’t promise you that I will always know what I’m doing or that I will have the correct answers to all of your questions, but what I can promise that I will always be here to guide you through this tricky test we call life, and I will love you day in and day out for your entire life. Your health and happiness is what is most important and it always will be.
Love,
Dad
